After nearly 20 years in the field, I still have to work really hard at focusing on my own self-care. Just like you, I know that an intentional focus on wellness is an extremely important element contributing to our well-being as counselors. And though we’re familiar with self-care — even preaching the concept religiously to clients — it’s a challenge to put the concept into practice in our own lives. Life gets busy, and we convince ourselves that we can, or even should, handle problems and stress on their own. But, I’ve come to realize that everybody needs a little help sometimes.
